CONFLICT TRANSFORMATION
We deliberately use the phrase "conflict transformation" rather than "conflict management" because we wish to focus on the positive functions of a conflict: ie. bringing about necessary changes. Proper management of a conflict will not aim at limiting the conflict, but rather at "transforming" the conflict into a dialog based on meeting the needs of the protagonists.
In a typical course in conflict management, one will over time build up the following skills:
communication, self insight, cooperation, empathy, and finally conflict management when the person is himself involved in a conflict. Third party mediation is another skill. You will find exercises on third party mediation in our section on School Mediation.
The exercises below concentrate on analysis of a conflict situation, knowledge of the human needs that must be fullfilled for peace to prevail, knowledge of the way a conflict builds up and can be defused again, knowledge of the strategies people use in a conflict situation, simple rules for the classroom for solving conflicts and dealing with anger etc.
Below you find exercises related to education on nonviolence. The descriptions will be opened in Microsoft Word format and can be changed, printed and saved by the user. NB! Any changes made to the documents will not be saved in our database. Feel free to adapt materials for your own use.
These exercises are Word files. To load the file down onto your computer, right click and choose "save target as".
