Core Skills for Working in Conflict, 17-22 July in London (non-residential) Level 2
If you need to develop your skills to enable you to work in conflict and post-conflict situations this course offers a more in-depth opportunity to explore and develop the skills essential for anyone working in the fields of conflict prevention, crisis management or peacebuilding. These include written and verbal communication skills, inter-personal and team working skills, diplomatic and relational skills and analytical and observational skills.

Core Skills Course at the University of Central England in Birmingham (non-residential, with possibility of accommodation), level 2
This course, organized jointly by International Alert and the University of Central England, will be adapted from the Peaceworkers Core Skills course and run in Birmingham. This course is also open to participation outside the UCE. This is an excellent opportunity to explore and develop further the skills essential for anyone working for peace.

Introduction to Election Observation, together with Electoral Reform International Services, 1st September, in London
This course prepares participants for short-term election observation missions, providing an insight into the nature of the work and to develop the key skills needed. It will encourage observers' ability to work as part of a team and deal with the challenges of a mission environment. It also provides a route into this area of work as a training course recognised by ERIS, the UK’s selecting organisation for election observers.

Introduction to Working in Conflict, London 3-4 November, (non-residential), or 6 weeks evening class in London starting Tuesday 4th September, Level 1
Want to find out more about the field of civilian ‘conflict work’? What is it? Who does it? What skills do you need to be able to do it? How do you get into it? The course will give you the opportunity to explore more deeply whether this kind of work is something you want to pursue and it will help you identify the skills you need to do so. This is an entry level course for those of any age with no background or experience in this area.

Professional Workplace Mediation Training Course, Edinburgh
Part I: 28-30 August
Part II: 18-20 September
This course is specifically about workplace mediation and is for those professionals who wish to upgrade their existing skills to conduct workplace mediation either internally in their organisation or as professional external workplace mediators. The teaching style is highly experiential. The best way to learn to mediate is by doing it. Accordingly, participants will spend approximately 40% of their time in role plays with a strong focus on peer coaching, and lectures are mixed with exercises. The course is suitable for: Human Resource Managers, EAP Counsellors & Consultants, Welfare Officers, Psychologists and Psychotherapists, and Occupational Health Professionals. Cost: £1495 (plus VAT) and includes training manual, text book, all lunches.
